NFL Combine-2013 Mock Draft (Seven Rounds)

ROUND ONE

1-Kansas City Chiefs: Geno Smith-QB-West Virginia

Analysis: The Chiefs biggest need is quarterback and while Geno Smith is not in the class of quarterbacks that went in the top ten last season they have to make the move that is best for their franchise.

2-Jacksonville Jaguars: Dion Jordan-DE/OLB-Oregon

Analysis: The Jaguars have been on the search for a pass rusher for quite a while and the versatile player from Oregon has potential to be a complete terror at the next level.

3-Oakland Raiders: Sharrif Floyd-DT-Florida

Analysis: The Raiders need to rebuild their defense and no player is rising up draft boards faster than Sharrif Floyd.

4-Philadelphia Eagles: Star Lotulelei-DT-Utah

Analysis: The draft board doesn’t fir the Eagles’ needs well so they take the best player available. Lotulelei is a dominant presence on the defensive line in the mold of the Ravens’ Haloti Ngata.

5-Detroit Lions: Bjoern Werner-DE-Florida State

Analysis: Cliff Avril is a free agent and the Lions released Kyle Vanden Bosch making defensive end their biggest need. Werner is rated by many as the best defensive end in the draft and is a perfect fit in Detroit next to Mr. Suh.

6-Cleveland Browns: Ezekial Ansah-DE-BYU

Analysis: The Browns are switching to a 3-4 defense and Ansah is the ideal fice technique in the mold of San Francisco’s Justin Smith.

7-Arizona Cardinals: Luke Joeckel-OT-Texas A&M

Analysis: No team needs a left tackle more than the Cardinals and they are lucky to have one of the best players in the draft fall into their laps.

8-Buffalo Bills: Jarvis Jones-OLB-Georgia

Analysis: The Bills need linebacker help in the worst way and after receiving a clean bill of health you would be hard pressed to find a better rush linebacker than the ferocious Jarvis Jones.

9-New York Jets: Kenny Vaccaro-S-Texas

Analysis: Laron Landry is a free agent and Yeremiah Bell is a player on the decline making safety the biggest need for the Jets. Vaccaro is a do-it-all player than excels at covering tight ends which is a major need when playing in a division with Rob Gronkowski.

10-Tennessee Titans: Chance Warmack-G-Alabama

Analysis: I hate drafting a guard this high and there is no doubt that this is not a sexy pick but Warmack is as good of a guard prospect as we have seen in over a decade.

11-San Diego Chargers: Eric Fisher-OT-Central Michigan

Analysis: Phil Rivers’s disastrous 2012 season was partially due to horrid play at left tackle. Fisher was the MVP of the senior bowl and a player ready to step in at left tackle.

12-Miami Dolphins: Shledon Richardson-DT-Missouri

Analysis: The Dolphins draft the best player on the board and while this move will not excite Dolphins’ fans it makes sense. Randy Starks is a free agent and Paul Soliai is on the last year of his deal. Richardson is an explosive, disruptive player that is better that can contribute immediately.

13-Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dee Milliner-CB-Alabama

Analysis: Ronde Barber is ancient and corner is a major need for the Buccaneers and they are fortunate to have the best corner in the draft fall into their laps.

14-Carolina Panthers: Cordarrelle Patterson-WR-Tennessee

Analysis: Steve Smith isn’t getting younger and the Panthers are fortunate enough to get the receiver with the highest ceiling in the draft.

15-New Orleans Saints: Barkevious Mingo-OLB-LSU

Analysis: The Saints are another team switching to a 3-4 defense and getting a stud pass rusher like Mingo is ideal. Mingo has an explosive first step and could develop into the best player in this draft.

16-St. Louis Rams: Lane Johnson-OT-Oklahoma

Analysis: The Rams priority has to be keeping Sam Bradford upright and finding a premier left tackle will do the trick. Lane Johnson is one of the most athletic offensive tackles I have ever scouted and should be an instant plug and play in St. Louis.

17-Pittsburgh Steelers: Alec Ogletree-LB-Georgia

Analysis: Larry Foote is old and not the player he once was so the Steelers get an athletic marvel to pair inside with Lawrence Timmons.

18-Dallas Cowboys: Jonathan Cooper-G-North Carolina

Analysis: The interior of the Cowboys offensive line is as bad as it gets so getting

19-New York Giants: DJ Fluker-OT-Alabama

Analysis: The Giants offensive line could use a new look with Will Beatty being a free agent and David Diehl making way too much money. Fluker has long arms which NFL scouts covet and gotten himself in tremendous shape.

20-Chicago Bears: Tyler Eifert-TE-Notre Dame

Analysis: The Bears need help along the offensive line but no one warrants being selected here so they look to find an impact player at another position of need. Tyler Eifert is hands down the best tight end in this draft and should prove to be viable target for Jay Cutler.

21-Cincinnati Bengals: Matt Elam-S-Florida

Analysis: The Bengals need to find an active safety to pair with Reggie Nelson and it is clear that Taylor Mays is not the answer.

22-St. Louis Rams (Wash): DeAndre Hopkins-WR-Clemson

Analysis: The Rams need a true number one receiver for Sam Bradford and DeAndre Hopkins put on quite the show torching the LSU secondary in the Chick-Fil-a Bowl.

23-Minnesota Vikings: Jesse Williams-DT-Alabama

Analysis: The Vikings’ defense was dominant when it was lead by the “Williams’ and they can rebuild it by drafting the mammoth Jesse Williams to pair with Kevin Williams.

24-Indianapolis Colts: Damontre Moore-OLB-Texas A&M

Analysis: As the Colts transition to a 3-4 defense it will be vital that they find a pass-rusher that can replace Dwight Freeney. Moore is not as explosive as many would like but he gives 100% on every play.

25-Seattle Seahawks: Sam Montgomery-DE-LSU

Analysis: After Chris Clemons went down the Seahawks could not generate a pass rush. Finding someone who can apply pressure has to be a priority for Seattle.

26-Green Bay Packers: Datone Jones-DE-UCLA

Analysis: The Packers’ defense was embarrassed by the 49ers and Colin Kapernick. Datone Jones can play end in their scheme and make a difference immediately.

27-Houston Texans: Jonathan Cyprien-S-Florida International

Analysis: The Texans’ good defense gets better when they get one of the best all around safety prospects in the draft.

28-Denever Broncos: Jonathan Banks-Cornerback-Mississippi State

Analysis: Champ Bailey and father time are catching up so finding a legit shut down corner is a major need for Denver.

29-New England Patriots: Keenan Allen-WR-California

Analysis: The Patriots need to revamp their receiver core as it has let them down when it matters most. Keenan Allen is a not the faster receiver in the draft but he is polished and will make an immediate impact catching passes from Tom Brady.

30-Atlanta Falcons: Tank Carradine-DE-Florida State

Analysis: John Abraham is not a spring chicken and the Falcons need to bolster their pass rush anyways. Tank Carradine is one of the best fifteen players in this draft and if it wasn’t for injury he would not be on the board so I consider this a major steal.

31-San Francisco 49ers: Travis Frederick-C-Wisconsin

Analysis: The 49ers might have the best offensive line in the league with the weakest link being center. Problem solved;

32-Baltimore Ravens: Manti Te’o-LB-Notre Dame

Analysis: We all know the controversy surrounding Manti Te’o but with that said he is a leader with strong intangibles and would look nice in the middle of the Baltimore defense replacing Ray Lewis.

ROUND TWO

33-Jacksonville Jaguars: Zach Ertz-TE-Stanford

Analysis: Mercedes Lewis defines inconsistency and the Jaguars need to find Blaine Gabbert a more reliable target.

34-Kansas City Chiefs: Kevin Minter-LB-LSU

Analysis: The death of Javon Belcher left a void in the middle Chiefs’ defense. Pairing Minter in the middle with Derrick Johnson with give Kansas City quite the formidable tandem;

35-Philadelphia Eagles: EJ Manuel-QB-Florida State

Analysis: Mike Vick was brought back on a one year deal so he is not a long term solution. There is no player that is a better fit to run Chip Kelly’s offense than EJ Manuel.

36-Detroit Lions: Alex Okafor-DE-Texas

Analysis: Another defensive end for the Lions? The Lions would be lucky to walk away with this tandem which will immediate give the Lions one of the most feared defensive line’s in the NFL.

37-Cincinnati Bengals (OAK): Arthur Brown-LB-Kansas State

Analysis: Arthur Brown is a perfect fit for the Bengals’ linebacker core and will find no time in becoming their best linebacker.

38—Arizona Cardinals: Mike Glennon-QB-NC State

Analysis: Mike Glennon has a big arm and the Cardinals desperately need someone who can get the ball to Larry Fitzgerald.

39-New York Jets: Ryan Nassib-QB-Syracuse

Analysis: The Jets would cut Mark Sanchez if the move wouldn’t put them in salary cap hell but with that said they need to start looking at other options because it will be tough to sell the Jets’ fan base with Sanchez as the starter.

40-Tennessee Titans: Desmond Trufant-CB-Washington

Analysis: The Titans secondary is complete garbage and Trufant is the best player they have in the secondary as soon as he is drafted.

41-Buffalo Bills: Matt Barkley-QB-USC

Analysis: Ryan Fitzpartick simply is not getting the job done. Matt Barkley has some injury concerns with his shoulder but he is the second best quarterback in this draft and the Bills are lucky to get him here.

42-Miami Dolphins: Tavon Austin-WR-West Virginia

Analysis: The Dolphins need to surround Ryan Tannehill with weapons and even if they do keep Brian Hartline and make a splash with a Mike Wallace or Greg Jennings I suspect they will still look for a receiver in the draft. Austin is the most electrifying player in this draft and a dangerous return man to boot.

43-Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Tyler Wilson-QB-Arkansas

Analysis: The Buccaneers clearly do not have faith in Josh Freeman and I doubt they will pay him big after this season.

44-Carolina Panthers: Jonathan Hankins-DT-Ohio State

Analysis: The Panthers add some serious beef to their defensive line and get the run stuffing monster from Ohio State.

45-San Diego Chargers: Xavier Rhodes-CB-Florida State

Analysis: The Chargers secondary was lit up like a Christmas tree in 2012 so getting the physical corner from Florida State should improve them in a big way.

46-St. Louis Rams: Tony Jefferson-S-Oklahoma

Analysis: The Rams’ young defense is on the verge of something special and adding a center-field safety like Tony Jefferson can help them take the next step.

47-Dallas Cowboys: Kawann Short-DT-Purdue

Analysis: The Cowboys are switching to a 4-3 defense and Short gives them a difference maker in the middle of their new defense.

48-Pittsburgh Steelers: Justin Hunter-WR-Tennessee

Analysis: Losing Mike Wallace will hurt the Steelers but adding a player like Justin Hunter will soften the blow. Hunter is a monster who could become one of the best jump ball receivers in the NFL.

49-New York Giants: Margus Hunt-DE-SMU

Analysis: The Giants love their pass rusher and with Osi Umenyiora an unrestricted free agent I suspect they will reload.

50-Chicago Bears: Marquis Goodwin-WR-Texas

Analysis: Goodwin might very well be the fastest player in the draft and the Bears clearly need a receiver that can stretch the field.

51-Washington Redskins: Phillip Thomas-S-Fresno State

Analysis: The Redskins were a pleasant surprise in 2012 but for them to repeat they will have to get a lot better in their secondary. Thomas has extraordinary ball skills and brings a play-maker to the back of the Redskins’ defense.

52-Minnesota Vikings: Terrance Williams-WR-Baylor

Analysis: The Vikings need better talent surrounding Christian Ponder and Williams has big play ability that the Vikings lack especially if they lose Percy Harvin.

53-Cincinnati Bengals: Eddie Lacy-RB-Alabama

Analysis: The Bengals need an every down runner and Eddie lacy is the type of power back that fits the mold of the AFC North.

54-Miami Dolphins (IND): Travis Kelce-TE-Cincinnati

Analysis: Tight End is one of the biggest needs for the Dolphins so drafting Kelce gives them that and another receiving weapon for Tannehill. Kelce is one of the more underrated prospects in the draft that has a pro-bowl future ahead of him.

55-Green Bay Packers: Markus Wheaton-WR-Oregon State

Analysis: The Packers are surely losing Greg Jennings so they need to keep receiving weapons at Aaron Rodgers’ disposal.

56-Seattle Seahawks: Sylvester Williams-DT-North Carolina

Analysis: Williams is a monster against the run and would look real nice paired next too Red Bryant.

57-Houston Texans: Robert Woods-WR-USC

Analysis: The Texans need a more dynamic weapon across from Andre Johnson and they just solved that issue in a major way.

58-Denver Broncos: Giovanni Bernard-RB-North Carolina

Analysis: Will Willis McGahee be back in 2012? Bernard is the best back in this draft and should give the Broncos a greatly improved running game.

59-New England Patriots: John Jenkins-DT-Georgia

Analysis: It will be tough to run against the Patriots with this monster paired next to Vince Wilfork.

60-Atlanta Falcons: Larry Warford-G-Kentucky

Analysis: The Falcons truly need help at offensive guard and get an absolute gem in Warford.

61-San Francisco 49ers: Jordan Poyer-CB-Oregon State

Analysis: The 49ers secondary let them down against the Ravens in the Super Bowl so finding better cover corners has to be a plan.

62-Baltimore Ravens: Eric Reid-S-LSU

Analysis: Ed Reed will not be back in Baltimore so finding someone to take the reigns has to be part of the plan.

63-Kansas City Chiefs: Vance McDonald-TE-Rice

64-Jacksonville Jaguars: Darius Slay-CB-Mississippi State
